New Changes to Science Standards Focus on Science Literacy and Involvement

The final draft of the new guidelines for K-12 science education, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), were unveiled on April 9th.  These new, voluntary standards identify the key science and engineering content that students will need to be aware of to be successful in later college and careers.

Using a Drupal 7 website, Synaxis developed several methods of searching and filtering the content. For the NGSS hosting we implemented two reverse proxies and multiple load balanced web servers that would maintain performance even during heavy loads of traffic.

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will be based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council. The bipartisan, non-profit organization Achieve coordinated the development of the NGSS. Through a collaborative, state-led process, new K-12 science standards were developed that are rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades in order to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. The Next Generation Science Standards Phase 3 launch is step 6 in a 9-step process to develop, review, revise, and publish the new national science education standards.

One new design element users may notice is an easy to read menu which makes finding specific products easier. Hover over any element on this menu, and new “mega menu” drops down for even more tailored browsing.

Launch of the Next Generation Science Website (Phase 2)

Synaxis recently completed a website for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that allows browsers to find and review information about the NGSS as well as review the draft standards themselves (until the end of May). The final standards will be published in 2013.
